Kuska was founded in 2006 by the initiative of two friends, Annick and Maya (us), following a trip to Peru. Beyond the many charms of this country, our memories were filled by hundreds of faces of children, women and families without hope for a better futur. Our journey brought us to Ayacucho, a lovely Andean city deprived of any signs of tourism or any other economic activities. Between rows of modest « housing », street vendors and numerous Basilicas, there was Gil, Chantal and 25 loved children….Los Gorriones. An oasis among the desert, a source of hope for several young souls abandoned by this cruel life. Our own lives have been changed, our desire to make a difference enlightned. Upon our return, we materialized our thoughts. Kuska, a Canadian not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the life conditions of the children and families of Ayacucho, Peru, was born. Since then, many others have joined us and our projects. In Quechua, an Andean dialect, Kuska stands for « together ». Little by little, small steps for us but great stride for these children.
It is in memory of Chantal (co-founder of Los Gorriones who past away on April 10th of 2007) that we dedicate our activities. She will remain for us, and for many more, a great exemple of generosity, of dedication and of a true mother; an inspiration for a better world. |
